What is the Family tourism certification?
In 2014, the Catalan Tourist Board awarded Castell-Platja d’Aro its certification as a
Family Tourism Destination (DTF), a distinction only awarded to 27 other destinations across
Catalonia. Coastal destinations have the 'Family-friendly Beach Holidays' label and Inland
destinations have Family-friendly Adventure Holidays.
The 'Family-friendly Beach Holidays' label certifies that these destinations are ideal places
for family holidays, offering facilities and services adapted to the needs of families
with children. Also includes accommodation, restaurants and leisure facilities certified
with 'Family-friendly Beach Holidays' label.
The summer of 2016 was born Xalarí, the mascot of Platja d’Aro family tourism, created by the illustration team of XuxuLanstrum from Girona, its image wants to transmit tenderness with its childish strokes, joy through the multiple colours that accompany it, and the reminder of summer elements with hair that reminds us of the sun and a tail that symbolises the waves of the sea.
During these years he has been the protagonist of activities, publications, gymkhanas, etc. aimed at the family public. In 2021 his sister, Xalarina, was born, with which we increase the family of family tourism in the municipality.
